Sangre De Mi Sangre
Creative Direciton, Photography

Sangre De Mi Sangre began out of a very common familial relationship; one of a mother and daughter. While every mother-daughter relationship manifests in different forms, the feelings that were almost birthed from this ongoing project are one of a daughter searching for her own identity, reflections of motherhood, and the intricacies of a South American mother raising a child in the United States.

I felt that exploring this particular relationship almost felt imperative to do as I grow older. I look at being a photographer differently with my mom, her childhood photos in Peru, her immigration papers, and the images that resurface years later documenting her life as she ages, become my muse. I itch to capture her again behind my own lens, as a mother with a daughter who happens to be me. In many ways as a first-generation child this feels like  preservation of our legacy through documentation.

We are born from the wombs of our mothers, her blood lives in mine as much as mine does in hers, she’s in every reflection of every mirror I've ever looked in.
